Year 6 Air Pollution Virtual sessions 2021
Air Pollution continues to be a major environmental health hazard for Newham residents. Year 6's persuasive writing unit culminated in two virtual information sessions on Thursday 25th February 2021 to showcase students' learning and engage in discussions with East Ham MP, Stephen Timms.
During these sessions, Year 6 students spoke clearly and confidently as they presented their arguments concerning the air pollution crisis in Newham and recommended a range of solutions. Local MP, Stephen Timms engaged students in lively debate concerning the newly introduced (6th January 2021) emissions based charging in Newham and an Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).
Below are some questions addressed to Mr Timms:
What actions (other than ULEZ) are going to be enforced that will have a significant impact - towards ending air pollution? - Panos
What plans does your department have for Covid-19 vaccination of undocumented migrants? - Samarah
How has your life changed since Covid-19? - Syed
School leaders, teachers, support staff and an intern from the MP's office (Harjinder Chauhan) were in attendance to celebrate students' learning - children learning remotely and at school.
