International Day of Peace
Every year, the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day committed to peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. This year’s focus is on ‘Shaping Peace Together’. Cooperation across borders and compassion in the midst of a global pandemic is encouraged.
To mark its 75th anniversary, the United Nations has extended invitations to millions of people worldwide to join UN75, the largest ‘global conversation’ on how we could build a peaceful and prosperous future.
This year’s International Day of Peace will be devoted to generating dialogue and collecting ideas. The world will be invited to unite and share thoughts on how to eradicate this pandemic and heal our world.
Students at Lathom will list ways in which they can practise the values of International Day of Peace and try to achieve as many as possible in one day. In addition, they will write acrostic poems based on the theme ‘PEACE’.
Celebrate the day by spreading kindness, compassion and hope in your community. Join us as we shape peace together.
