Holocaust Memorial Day 2021

‘Be the light in the darkness’

Holocaust Memorial Day was commemorated around the world, in a very different way this year, but we were all able to join together on the evening of the 27th to light a candle. Lathom Junior School ensured that children could participate during these trying times, whether in school or at home.  HMD was highlighted in the ‘Weekly Event’.

Children had the opportunity to access a range of activities to mark the occasion including holocaust poems, memorial tiles to holocaust victims, kindness quotes on butterflies and responses to eye-witness accounts.

Poetry Writing:

Sumaiya wrote a very moving poem

Dishita's Poem:

You ate my my childhood

You  ate my parents

You  ate my friends

You ate my life

I am no more but your still hungry.

Children in Year 6 also had the opportunity to write in their own words how they felt about the Holocaust, the Foundation Stones and the genocide as a whole.
