Maths Week London
This week, Lathom students had the opportunity to celebrate Maths by engaging in creative and authentic learning activities. Maths Week London is aimed at building children's confidence, nurturing a love for Maths and sparking interest in a subject that impact all of our lives on a daily basis.
Children learning at home and Year 6 children at school have participated in a London-wide online Maths contest - Sumdog. This contest truly motivated students to be Maths heroes. Maths questions are geared at developing fluency as students have to answer 'quick-fire' questions. All of the questions are tailored to each student's level, giving everyone a fair chance of winning.
Another popular activity was 'Shapes and Structures' by the Science Museum Group. Children developed several skills - practical testing and problem solving - as they built a 'tall, strong tower' using spaghetti and marshmallows.
Children's work is displayed below.
