Year 6 Super Scientists
In Science, Year 6 students explored the concept ‘Light’ and used the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain why shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them.
School closures did not hinder students’ ability to learn as the Google Classroom enabled students and teachers to remain connected; learning continued via this platform. First, children investigated the size of a shadow cast by an object at different distances from the light source. The second experiment involved creating shadow puppets.
Children were able to work scientifically at home: plan and control variables, take accurate measurements, present findings and conclusions.
It is impressive to recognise how students were able to express themselves confidently and make use of technology at home. Task submissions included photographs, video presentations and reports.
