101st Armistice Anniversary 2019
Monday 11th November 2019, ten children from Year 6 including School Councillors, had the honour of attending the 101st Anniversary of the Armistice. The ceremony was held at the Cenotaph in Central Park, East Ham.
The ceremony is inextricably linked with British values and as such is part of our heritage. The ceremony was attended by The Mayor Rokshana Fiaz and our MP Stephen Timms. Two children laid a wreath on behalf of the school and it can be seen there over the next few months. After the service, children were able to speak to members of the Royal British Legion, who explained how Newham and East ham have a tremendous debt of gratitude to the men and women who lay down their lives for us.
Attending these events and hearing people talk about their personal history, gives weight to the children’s knowledge and greater understanding of the reality of cause and effect, how the past informs the present.
