Careers Morning
Parents and carers who wanted advice on getting back into work or progressing their education were invited to come and speak to agencies such as Learn Direct, Job Centre Plus, early start and many more. We even had some dedicated parents volunteering to help out in school.
Aspirations week
Children had a week of inspiring talks in a bid to raise their aspirations in life. The children had the opportunity to talk to visitors about their careers and how they made their aspirations into a reality. |
 |
|
Visitors include a police officer, a NatWest bank officer, Misty the dog from Battersea Dogs Home and even some ex-Lathom pupils talking about their achievements since they have left Lathom. |
| During the week every class set up their own business. |
|
|
We would like to thank all those parents, carers, members of the community, staff and all the visitors for their support in making our first careers and aspirations week a huge success. |
The Apprentice
| On Friday 4th April as part of aspirations week each class came to ‘Lathom Market’ to sell a product that their new business had designed, worked out costs for and promoted. |
Products include jewellery, cakes, door signs and T-shirts. The prize for the winning enterprise who made the biggest profit was to keep half the money and donate the other half to a charity of their choice.
After a close battle Mrs Valle’s class won by 45p against Miss Khawaja’s class. |
 |
| 5JV very kindly decided to use half the money to reward the whole of their year group with a party and the rest of the money they decided to donate to Battersea Dogs Home after their inspiring visit. |
Bollywood Night
On Thursday the 3rd of April, Lathom held its first Bollywood Night. The night was a real success. The event was well attended by parents/carers and their children; dressed in colourful traditional costumes, even some of the staff were looking Bollywood. Thank you to the parents/carers who attended as this night was a night for you and we were pleased with the turnout.
The night showcased entertainment from our keen children and some very talented adults. The entertainment consisted of dhol and drum playing, classical Indian and contemporary Bollywood dancing. We even had a surprising and brilliant performance from one of the parents. Its popularity was so overwhelming that we apologise if you were unable to attend this time
Thank you to Mr Sagoo, Anna Moorthy, Jasmine and Shaan Mann, Taz, Kavita, Mrs Williams (Hannah’s mum) and all the staff who helped out. Thanks must also go to Mr Ttoffali and Kitty the school cook for making the delicious food. Of course, thank you and well done to the children who performed.
As for next time, we welcome any suggestions to improve this event.
26 laps for charity
Well done to all children who raised money for children with Leukaem by walking 26 laps of the playground.
A total of £750 was collected.
Spanish HeadTeacher Visit
For the past two weeks we have had the company of a Spanish HeadTeacher visiting us and working with some of the children to teach them Spanish. “My stay at Lathom has been the best teacher training experience. I’ll take some of these ideas to my school. Thanks a lot!” Nieves
